Welcome nursing peeps!

Congrats December 2010 graduates! I started this blog for may grads, however since we have the mutual honor of being 2010 grads and have some close associations with fellow students from December grads, this will be a combined blog =) Feel free to post your thoughts, memories, success stories, and or melancholy moments from school and our jobs! We want to hear from you, and keep up our mutual connections from school.

Sincerely Yours,
Julia Bluth, RN

  1. Let me see, where to begin? I have been one of the few fortunate graduates to land a job in acute care. I picked up and moved my daughter to Lubbock Texas and I am currently working in a Level I Trauma Center as an ICU RN. Loving it more everyday. Somedays are overwhelming and the realization that what I learned in school is so much different than how it is out here in the real World of Nursing. If we Nursed like we answered the NCLEX we'd either be killing our patients or being screamed at by every Dr in the hospital. So I continue to take it day by day. And use every opportunity as a learning experience. Good luck to everyone. Keep in touch.

  2. I am so proud of you Mona! Can you believe it, that you are an ICU nurse! After everything we all went through, we did it!!!!!!! I do miss the nursing school atmosphere though ;( I met some really great people. Online classes are not even close to being the same ;(

  3. A little about me.... I passes NCLEX in July! Wow what a relief! I started as a middle school nurse at Prescott Mile High Middle School. It was a great learning experience, but I do not think I was ready for all that responsibility. It was more communicable nursing and infectious disease. A lot to take on for a new grad. I also felt that I was loosing my nursing skills since I was not using them on a every day basis.
I then decided to apply for the new-grad program at the Mayo, and miraculously got hired on for Jan. 4th. I have been there a month now and LOVE it! I really feel like I am doing real nursing. The Mayo is a great place to work, especially as a new grad. They are really supportive and they have tons of great teachers! I am so excited to be further taught by the Mayo and their staff. We will see where it leads me. I hear they have a great operative internship, but I have to be there a year to apply. So far I have been in orientation and have done four shifts on the floor, tonight will be my fifth. They are really particular in making sure that you feel adequate and confident in your nursing skills to be let out on your own. I have 24 nights total with a preceptor then I will be rounded with to see if I am competent to do nursing on my own. If they feel I need more teaching they will keep me with my preceptor. I am already feeling so comfortable, I really think I will be ready after 20 more shifts :). I hope anyway. I just love the whole education process of it. It has been really beneficial.
Well I will keep you all posted. I hope more of us join this blog. It is really cool to see what we are doing and where we all are going in our nursing careers. :)
